The south side of a Victorian duplex in Denver’s Uptown neighborhood became a study in restraint over ornament — a clean modern hand laid on top of the existing Victorian bones, warm where the building was hard, quiet where it was busy.

Radia overhauled the living room fireplace with a hand-fabricated black metal facade in a modern Japanese motif, then hand-treated every piece of hardwood using the Yakisugi shou-sugi-ban method. To reach the second attic — which the original layout only allowed via a tiny closet — the team built a secret entry that doubles as linen storage and turns the climb into the room.
